ALTERNATIVE BREAKS
SPRING BREAK LOGISTICS
When: Week of Spring Break (March 16 - March 22)
Where: Location depends on which organization you work with.
Education: Alternative Breaks provides a service-learning component that offers guest speakers and activities in person. This component is a supplement to the volunteering that you will be doing. The education component will begin on February 5th and will continue with weekly lessons until the break.
Cost: Travel site participation is $275. This covers the cost of travel, housing, and food for the duration of the break. Scholarships are available from several sources including the Alternative Breaks Scholarship Fund. More information will be given at the first class in February.
SPRING 2024-2025 SITES
— FOOD ACCESSIBILITY @ FEEDING SOUTH DAKOTA —
Feeding South Dakota is the state’s largest hunger-relief organization, embarking on their mission to end hunger in South Dakota. Through their programs and agency partners they provide food in all sixty-six counties of their state. They fight hunger in all areas: rural communities, metro areas, and Native American Reservations.
— ANIMAL REHAB @ TURPENTINE CREEK REFUGE | Eureka Springs, AR —
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge’s mission is to provide lifetime refuge for abused and neglected animals with emphasis on tigers, lions, leopards, and cougars. The Refuge relies on their three cornerstones: education, preservation, and compassion, to provide refuge and knowledge about the lives of these Big Cats. Through public education they work to end the Exotic Animal Trade, making sanctuaries like their own no longer necessary.
— LGBTQIA2+ @ INSIDE OUT YOUTH SERVICES | COlorado Springs, CO—
Inside Out Youth Services strives to build access, equity, and power within LGBTQIA2+ young people through leadership, advocacy, community-building, and peer support. Inside Out offers in-person and digital programming to offer a space space for the LGBTQIA2+ youth to grow– offering outreach programs including Medicaid providers, clinicians, teachers, students, parents, lawmakers, and educators.

The Community Children’s Center has served Douglas County since 1965, bridging the gap in available, accessible, and affordable high-quality early childhood care for kids 0-5 in our community. They provide education, support, advocacy, and programs to build stronger families and promote family and workplace health in Lawrence.
